HOD sh b'HOD
Sephirat HaOmer day 33, Lag B'Omer

REVERBERATIONS IN GLORY

- Joy Krauthammer

Dear Chevre,

As it is 18 Iyar, the 33rd day, four weeks and five days, Hod sh b'Hod, of the Sephirat HaOmer counting, Lag B'Omer, it is a day beginning now, to celebrate. We are celebrating the neshama of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, being freed on the day he died. R. Shimon bar Yochai, author of the Zohar, a book of Jewish mysticism, believed that when a person died, the soul was set free*, and that day was to be celebrated. On the day of his passing, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai instructed his disciples to mark the date as "the day of my joy."

*(At my husband, Marcel's, z'l, funeral, I remember calling out loud, "He's free, free at last." I understood and celebrated Marcel's birthday in Heaven.)

For a long time, it was difficult for me to understand and grasp the Sephirah HOD, but I am getting better at it, and last night counting double Hod, on a personal level of understanding, I express to you, the splendor of Hod, the humility / Hod, the gratitude / Hod I feel for the blessings we receive from Yah, the Compassionate One, and also for my rebbes. My praise and thankfulness reverberate as does Hod, in my song for the Eternal One. As an Artist of Life, I praise Yah through the vessels of my musical and sound healing instruments, and in my garden.

We can feel the reverberations in glory and ripples of that Love / Ahava / Tiferet, that heart beat, echoing through our cells and into the universe.

When I touch the esssence of flowers- G*d's Face, or photograph sunrise, or when I drum, and offer sound healing, I feel Rumi's words:

"When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy." (Rumi)

Hod within Hod is like being inside a giant Tibetan or crystal singing bowl or my hand-made African djembe drum.

"Hearing the songs of the angels resonate as they praise the splendor, the glory / Hod of G*d’s love." (Chellema)

"Hod holds the possibility of forms which most joyfully and appropriately contain the energy they hold, and it is this possibility that we celebrate today." (R. Ted Falcon)

I walk into my garden--my transforming organic vessel holding forms of energy for meditation and beauty, and my soul in ecstasy connecting to the Divine One delights in the splendor of the vision and fragrance of new flowers blooming this week: magnificent ruffled petalled mauve colored bearded irises in addition to my lush deep purple bearded irises, and yellow irises which smell like lemons; the new field of creamy white wood irises which again appeared after a short absence of only a couple of days before replenishing themselves--looking this morning like a swarm of happy butterflies--individual flying flowers on the long end high tips of tall stems, swaying in the breeze; the loyal yellow day lilies; the pure white sophisticated calla lilies found in a bride's bouquet; the four-foot long, ever transforming, continually amazing me, bowed over stemmed exotic blooming onions (transplanted from my rebbetzin's garden).

The succulent 'mother of thousands', red, weird umbrella-shaped lagartijos (lizards) which mamash awesomely keep rebirthing themselves from their own limbs as well as with babies, and multiply themselves even more easily if laying sideways than upright; the taking advantage, seeking, vining passion flowers in all their strange ripply haired glory just beginning to birth firm shelled egg-shaped fruit; the inspiring strong orange clivia clusters, now transplanted to where I can enjoy them more easily under the shady fig tree; and amazingly, the stately stems of brightly colored gladiolas, each flower looking like an orchid--opening two months in advance of their usual birthday; my black berries to be have their white flowers and every year are ripe and ready for plucking on my birthday; the quick darting iridescent humming birds are loving the garden.

The Garden is filled with new dahlias, zinnias, petunias, marigolds, snap dragons, purple delphiniums (that I bought for Marcel's z'l more private intimate Matzeivah / gravestone unveiling two weeks ago) and verbena; and all kinds of stems with uncommon bulb flowers that I don't recall the names of... Of course, the first of the season--huge and lavish abundant profusions of roses, are beyond description in the spring season's primary bloom, especially in their majesty--Double Delight; I swoon when I smell its fragrance. (They are in the garden for Marcel, that I created a couple years ago, by transforming lawn into dirt flower beds, and added Aviva's favorite flowers, burgundy dahlia tubers. The yellow bees (wasps) are swarming through the aromatic gentle purple lavender flowers, and allow me to take a few to share wherever I go.

There is more... and I am grateful experiencing Hod / G*d's glory.
“Kadosh kadosh kadosh Yah, Tz’va-ot m’lo hol ha-aretz k’vodo”

“Holy, holy holy – Yah, – the whole earth is filled with your glory!”
The Alenu continues:
“V’ne-emar, v’haya Adonai l’me-leh al kol ha-aretz bayom hahu yi-h’ye Adonai e-had u-sh’mo ehad.”

“On that day the Eternal will truly be One with all the shapes and forms of its glory.”

Yet there are sad losses from the 24* freeze we had in this Valley this winter. I am in HOD, in humility, grateful for the blessings, and those 'issues' which must be blessings in disguise and will somehow transform from darkness to light.

"The Eternal placed the human being in the Garden of Eden to till it and to tend it." - Genesis 2:15

BlesSings for you to co-create and enjoy G*d's glory.
Joy Krauthammer

PS
Yes, all these manifestations of HOD, blesSings from the Divine One, are flowers from Joy's garden, co-tended in love with G*d.

Echoing of Gratitude within Splendor
Sephirat HaOmer day 33  along the Tree of Life

PRAISING G*D's SPLENDOR

- Joy Krauthammer

Hod, my vessel containing
my essence, my energy, my expression

revealed as I play passionate percussion
in gratitude for the glory of G*d.

Bells ringing, singing in abunDance
in harmony hear
and respond
to my inner vessel of joy.

Joy is my Hod,

in the Etz Chayyim
in the Tree of Life.

I dance
soar my soul,
sing, shout my song,
as I serve
the Divine Giver of Life.

Halleluyah!

My outer garments cover me,
strong deep royal colors, velvet
flowing pomegranate crimson
and splendor of purple painted silks,
sunrise and sunset,
color tones of the Temple.

Hod, receiving and
giving over my loving-kindness
to share sensations,
and my appreciation
for the Light
of the Eternal One.

Surrendering
as if floating,
held in soft waters,
I am in Oneness.

Feeling,
touching molecules
of space all around me,
I stretch my body,
my limbs
as high and wide and full
as my imagination can reach,
my voice as clear
as my channel can be,
my drumming
smoothly connected
to The Source of All BlesSings.

Blessed, I am drummed,
and feel fullness of embrace,
melding into the Waters of Life

My expansiveness
becomes One in harmony
with all present.
We receive each other,
reverberate vibrations
of praise to the Compassionate One,
an ecstatic meditation.

Halleluyah!

With timbrel in hand,
we have walked through

G*d's miraculous parted seas
to our freedom.

We can pray
and give gratitude
for all we can be,
to transcend
beyond ourselves.

Hod brings me
to my radiant community,
playful place
of music for Majesty.

Place of Hod, gratitude.

I'm told,
angels are heard
in the tinkle,
the twinkle of my chimes.

Halleluyah!

Hodu L’Hashem Ki Tov
Ki L’Olam Hasdo, Hodu.

- Psalm 136 Give Thanks To G*d

COMMITMENT - day 33 HOD sh b'HOD

Sephirat HaOmer - day 33 Hod sh b'Hod

Acknowledging Commitment

- Joy Krauthammer

Sitting in the beauty of acknowledging Splendor of Hod sh b'Hod, at a Lag B'Omer park picnic in musical celebration, it is the first time in my mind that I count forward to the last day deducting the 33 days counted of the Omer. I realize that the days of counting are nearing their end, in two weeks and two days, the finish toward Mount Sinai, now easily in sight.  I know it is Lag B'Omer but I don't cut my shaggy hair this day, and will wait until Shavuot even though I forgot to have my usual monthly trim before day One. Because of the day's historical joyousness, this is the day that my parents, z"l, married, and also a friend's parents, z"l. There is meaning in today's date, 18 Iyar. I am so ensconced in the Hebrew dates at this time, I am surprised to hear that May is here in 3 days. After Iyar, it is Sivan and my grand-baby M. Sivan's first birthday.

I have gone to the grocery on Lag b'Omer and bought many goodies, including yummy chocolatey Halavah and the sweetest red strawberries, and cutest baby asparagus and colorful baby peppers and more. Filled with the desire to share, I drive to my sister's home to share goodies, and also to share with an elderly neighbor.  I greatly appreciate these beloved people.

© Joy Krauthammer
In the grocery I met Russian immigrant friends with their 13 year old son whom I'm told has not had a Bar Mitzvah, and that mamash greatly saddens me. For a Simcha gift, I had already prepared a meaningful present. Reverberating in my memory is how I used to regularly bring those new friends to synagogue each Shabbat 23 years ago upon their arrival in the 'Goldena Medina'. I made a personal commitment then to help the Russian immigrants discover the Splendor of Judaism in America. Like a Keshet / a rainbow, I remember my commitment to have friends flourish in tradition and faith, something new to them. Caring, still now with the fire of Lag B'Omer, I start to scheme about how I will get a Chabad rabbi to meet the son and inspire him to have a Bar Mitzvah at Torah. In Hod, I breathe deeply. Ken Yehi Ratzon.

Is this counting each day what it felt like for Miriyahm HaNeviah when she sat outside of the tent, while she healed, having the time to spend on herself, to evaluate her actions and purify herself on G*d's time?

BlesSings for being Jewish, gratitude, health, wholeness, peace, revealed miracles, creativity, discovery, wonder, rainbows, fiery heart, love and joy,

COMPLIMENTS

- Joy Krauthammer

In deep commitment I "serve G*d with joy" in many ways, and inspired try to do my best with my strengths and opportunities which the Source of Life has endowed me; as a temple musician, sound healer, artist, writer, teacher, spiritual guide, and friend, and doing Bikkur Cholim.

In Hod / humility, if I do not readily acknowledge and accept the compliments shared by others with me, bestowed upon me (about 'gifts' I give to others, or how I have 'performed'), that is not acknowledging in Hod, the generous gift of the one who shares.

I've learned that not actively accepting is rejecting the other's compliment, and is not good for the other, nor the relationship. It may have even taken courage for a stranger to come to me, to wait for me (after 'performing'), to find me, or send me a card.

For my personal growth, and to repair my weakness in Hod, I must continue to learn to accept the gifts from others when I am given appreciative, generous, kind, sweet, thoughtful, beautiful, compassionate, and meaningful words from heart and soul. I am touched.

In Hod / gratitude which I mamash, truly do feel, I stop, stand still, look in the eyes of the other, and allow the spoken gifts to enter. I ask the person's name, repeat it, and thank them. I may feel my heart warm, tears may come, I may turn red, and sometimes have a hard time accepting the gift. I can truthfully say 'thank you', give a hug, and let the person know that the words make a difference to me, and that makes the other feel good. There is mutual respect and the revelation of valuing each other.

Why is it hard for me at the moment of giving, to accept compliments from people I may barely know, or not know at all? Maybe I am surprised to hear these words of praise. (I did not grow up hearing praise.)

In response and in all honesty I can tell the person that I am able to 'shine' as they say, because I feel and receive the loving joyous energy sent in my direction, surrounding me, inspiring me, and that mine then reflects back in circular form to those around me. The energy reverberates and light increases. I see it, feel it and react to the energy!

When I see a dancer rise to my music in Hod, my music rises higher in mamash true response. Grateful that energy recirculates.

I can turn to another musician and easily tell them how hearing them play in Splendor makes a difference to my soul. I can and do easily tell everyone, THANK YOU.

G*d has given me gifts, and I must acknowledge them to inspire others. Amayn.
May you be blessed to be all the best that you can be.
Namaste' / In your light I see light.

I acknowledge that reading what others are writing in this season's Huff Post Religion Omer Blog helps me to better understand Sephirat HaOmer. Thank you for sharing your gifts and wisdom.

BlesSings for acceptance, sharing, health, wholeness, peace, revealed miracles, creativity, discovery, wonder, blooming gardens, majestic sunrises, sighting birds, love and joy,

I share meditative echos of Sounds of Joy.

Backyard Baby Bunny

As I finish my Omer day 34, Sephirot Yesod sh b'Hod, and readying to enter Omer day 35, Malchut sh b'Hod, I enter my garden with camera in hand, and as always, I am in awe of G*d's creation surrounding me. Even the flowing purple flower vine fascinates me as it has crept its way hugely into cracks of the the patio cement and between bricks.

The wild backyard Bunnies (big and little) have scampered across the lawn after chewing on the grass, and I am grateful for the Splendor of the Holy One which I witness. The one yellow bearded iris is in full bloom and the wine colored iris is leaving until next spring. The golden citrus are hanging on the trees with mature fruit, as are also the babies just birthed from the sweet smelling white blossoms. Partially nibbled oranges and Passion fruit remain on the ground. Blackberries will ripen soon, and may be the meals for the bunny and every other creature visiting the garden. I hope this time they save one for me.

Double Delight
I give thanks to G*d for the magnificence I enjoy. Hod, I receive you with all my senses. Do you hear me? My cleansing of soul is filled with my gratitude for what I receive--including the roses which take away my breath, and the tiniest purple flower weed in the grass. I share my produce, flowers and photos, and give joy, friends tell me. I feel the joy of sharing, even with the creatures. I call and hold open the phone so others can hear the mockingbird in its symphony in the garden.

Even the simplest rose is beyond beauty. I keep snapping photos but I'm unable to capture its depth of beauty--maybe a little essence. Does this fragrant flower exemplify the magnificence of G*d's creations? I inhale deeply and in my hands, cup its many-petalled fully opened face and enjoy also the loveliness of the adjacent tight buds.

The roses are so spectacular that I just photographed to share with you; each color, the pink, the LIncoln red, the orange, and especially Double Delight in all its phases of opening.

You may not know this Passion Flower. You can see some not yet revealed blossoms which tomorrow on Day 35 will open, reaching Malchut, having been through all the stages to get to this point of survival- which does not always happen.

I share with you a photo of the Passion Flower from my vine. It is Yesod.

Can I birth as beautifully as this extraordinary flower which gives strange tasting wondrous fruit?
What shall I birth? In Yesod, hmm, maybe my photos.

The Passion Flowers are holding all the goodness that has flowed down to them as G*d smiles on them with an abunDance of sunshine and dew. It's not easy being a Passion Flower when so many critters and creatures partake of its very being, and suck its essence. I try to help keep the Passion Flower vine alive and flourishing. I think I am more aware of the flowers' vulnerability, safety and growth than my own being. I am sad when the flowers have been eaten, leaving only leaves, thus no fruit, and sometimes, not even the vine. I have had to cut it to the 'quick' to give it life.

I do know that for me as I shortly end the week of Hod with Sephirotic energies having flowed through me, that there is always more gratitude to share in the remaining Omer days for the Splendor in our universe. I can't wait until Hod rolls around again as a day within the coming week.  Baruch Hashem.

BlesSings, Joy

Here's more of today's flowers for your pleasure. G*d's Glory -- Hod.

FLOW IN SPLENDOR - day 35 MALCHUT sh b’HOD

MALCHUT sh b’HOD ~ Divine Flow Within Splendor

MALCHUT sh b’HOD ~ Divine Flow Within Splendor
I love being in HOD, week 5 of Omer Counting, and this night’s counting is MALCHUT the last day of HOD week. A time of Splendor, Presence, and reflecting Divine light.

Ahh, what does it mean?
How have I watched myself function in this pair of holy Sephirot?

My 52 Frames weekly photo challenge began on Sunday, during CHESED sh b’ HOD.

In CHESED I chose a photo for 52Frames weekly theme from a day with a visiting friend from Guatemala so she too could receive pleasure with memories. In GEVURAH I had to restrict myself to working within boundaries of theme, a “New Technique”, and with a current new photo. Which to choose? In TIFERET I want to work with beauty, harmony, blending color and form, and in truth choose a photo with meaning for me. In NETZACH I know I have to go forward to succeed in this week’s photo challenge and continue to deeply concentrate, but I had so much else to finish before this scheduled project. Needing to lay back for at least a few hours but no time, I’m not feeling confident and ready to learn a new technique to endure the assignment and to take a risk and maybe fail. I’ve completed so many creative projects in last week and I need refreshed energy to proceed.

HOD. Love Hod that takes me into being grateful in Hoda’ah consciousness for so much of Divine energy. I'm in awe of what I’ve seen– gifts of G*d at Lake Balboa (creatures and flowers and trees), and I've photographed, transcended and transformed images within reflecting light and color. (A white swan, now colorfully painted!)

Ah, pushing through within YESOD and creativity. Excited about all the birthing options explored and manifested in Yesod: Two dozen images of light brown tree trunks now with endless Photoshop color variations! For MALCHUT, choosing and publishing the final unique creation filled with saturated complementary colors, meaning, and self-expression revealed knowing I’m surrounded by Presence. I’ve transformed G*d’s natural beauty of pale tree trunks from reaching into Heaven, and now into 'Rivers' of blue between Heaven and Earth.

For me, The Source of BlesSings has flowed in the River of Light to fill yet another week of Splendor where I can examine myself within the Sephirot HaOmer and feel the freedom and flow of creative juices.

In Malchut sh b’Hod, how can we recognize the full flow, the sovereignty and Face of the Presence of the Holy One?
How do we see, and within humility also photograph G*d?
~

"Cross Process" story included in 52 Frames weekly challenge theme:  A NEW TECHNIQUE
See week 19 for more images and Process:
http://joys-favorite-fotos.blogspot.com/2015/01/submissions-to-52-frames-2015.html

Had a fun creative time with tutorial directions to create and explore ‘curves’ and ‘levels’ to alter photo’s color tone and forms. I faced my fears and fatigue to learn Photoshop's 'Cross Process' technique. In ‘layers' I exaggerated the options and changed intensity of red, green and blue in shadows, lights and darks, and added purple, orange, and yellow. Experimented endlessly until I found hues, saturations, and shapes forming that I passionately appreciate. I am so excited having created these limitless changes. I had to continually stop the flow in order to save and savor that moment.

Playing the digital 'Curves', I felt as if I were playing my large round frame drum, moving my fingers around the edge for different tones, to achieve high and low, and sharp and dull. I expect that I'll be now seeing colors when I play my frame drum in Hod.
